Volunteer Corner

Volunteer of the Month

Sharmila Gopinathan
Sharmila definitely brings the energy and enthusiasm to our program. Those who attend her classes leave with big smiles on their faces. She has taught several Play & Learn classes throughout our entire region. She kick-started Hindi Story Time in Sunnyvale. Since then many other cultural story time was introduced throughout our cities. Our most popular one was our Around the World Play & Learn. It was a 10 week class highlighting a different culture each week. She is seen to the left wearing a Japanese yukata during the Around the World Play & Learn: Japan. Her enthusiasm for introducing different cultures in the classes and her love and joy that she brings to the families makes her the volunteer of the month. It is quite an honor to have Sharmila a part of our team.

Volunteer Quote of the Month

"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around." - Leo Buscaglia

Volunteer Updates

When great creative minds come together, big ideas happen! We had our first Volunteer Meeting of this new fiscal year on Thursday, July 26 at Mercy Street FRC. We have such a great group of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers. With all of their talents combined, we are looking forward to many new classes and events within the next coming months.

For those that were not able to come to the meeting, every month we will post the Volunteer Meeting minutes online. All
volunteers in our database will have access to it (please let Nancy know if you are unable to view it).

CALLING ALL GARDENERS!  The LTI program has two wonderful community gardens in Mountain View (Mercy Street) and Sunnyvale at New World Child Development Center. In addition to planting and tending garden, we are planning a series of educational programs for children about the garden.  The curriculum has been developed, we just need volunteers to lead the programs or help us coordinate special planting parties.
