August Overview

Hello Families, Partners, and LTI Community

The heat of Summer is on! We are so blessed in this area to have many great places to explore, cool off, and play with the family.
Lots of exciting events and happenings across our communities. Here is your August Blog.

Highlights:
  • Backpack distribution from Mountain View Kiwanis and Silicon Valley Lion's Club One hundred backpacks were filled with supplies and delivered to the FRC for families.  25 went to students at San Miguel Elementary in Sunnyvale, and the rest were distributed to families who came to Mercy Street FRC for the event. We are proud to partner with the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs again for the third year to help identify families in need and distribute them to excited students. Families across our communities are eligible.
  • FREE REI Hike and Activities Hosted by FIRST 5 Santa Clara County to Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve - Saturday August 11 from 10am-1pm. See class info below for more details.
  • Two NEW unique presentations this month on Managing Sleep Patterns/Bedtime Routines, and Managing Crying by Hadas Keppel, based on Triple P special topics. (see Mountain View link)
  • Halloween Costume Exchange Party in Mountain View (Mercy Street FRC). Donations will be collected at all our sites and classes from August 6th through the September 28, and the pick up will be on September 29. See Mountain View, Sunnyvale & Cupertino links for details.
  • Fall Health and Fitness Events. FIRST 5 LTI received a grant from Lucille Packard to improve health and fitness in our community. We will be partnering with local health & fitness providers to offer classes for kids, parents, and kids/parents together. See the city pages for special events happening between now and November, like TaeKwon Do for kids, Stroll Fit Baby Bootcamp, a group hike to Rancho San Antonio, Infant Massage, and more!
  • Are You Zumba Teacher Material? Are you a Zumba lover? Do you think you'd make a good Zumba teacher? FIRST 5 LTI is looking for a dedicated volunteer who is interested in being trained to teach Zumba for our families. See Volunteer Corner for more information.
  • LTI Fundraiser - "Playful Parenting - Improvisational Skills For Family Life"  (canceled)

Outreach

Where have we been?

Each month, you'll find all of our dedicated Community Workers at the libraries, preschools, and faith-based organizations. Here are some highlights of places we've been to and special events we will be attending. We welcome volunteers who wish to help us outreach, and suggestions for events where we can reach families with young children.
  • In Mountain View, Summertime means the hugely successful Summer Sing Along Concerts. During the month, there were more than 2,000 people that came to the events. A Big THANK YOU to Karin Bricker and the other librarians for allowing us to outreach at these wonderful concerts.
  • In Cupertino, Nancy Doan and volunteer Nina Doan attended the annual Cupertino 4th of July  Quindlan  Breakfast. She met over 40 families.
  • In Sunnyvale, Hadas Keppel and Nancy Doan stepped into "Chaos" at the "Carnival of Chaos" event. She met 44 families.
  • In West San Jose, our continually successful Mommy & Me at Westgate helped us to find 45 families.
