Family Resource Center Initiative (FRC) for District 5

Serving Mountain View, South Sunnyvale, Cupertino and West San Jose, CA (locations listed below)

Welcome to our official Blog for North Santa Clara County's Family Resource Center Initiative. Our mission is to strengthen  families by teaching them how to make the most out of the first five years through classes that promote early literacy, school readiness, increased health and nutrition, and social-emotional health.

We have one main Family Resource Center in Mountain View and three additional satellite sites in the region, where we provide the classes, linkages to other essential community services, and opportunities for families to connect with each other through family events and opportunities to take part in strengthening the community through volunteer opportunities.

As a CHAC program, we emphasize the social-emotional aspects of school readiness, which teachers say is a critical aspect of Kindergarten readiness. All classes foster ways of building/maintaining a healthy connection between parent and child and increasing resilience in the family. We believe that when parents are involved in educational opportunities early on with their children, they are more likely to stay involved as the child grows. Through the program, they meet their neighbors, reducing the sense of isolation, and increasing the support they have in the community.

Volunteer Involvement: Our program relies on a combination of staff and volunteers to teach classes, and outreach to the community. We provide excellent training and opportunities for people to learn about early child development. We also offer flexible time commitments and  volunteer opportunities for people who have small children.

Services: We offer a variety of evidence-based classes at all four of our centers (click here for more on our services), plus referrals to community resources, Medi-Cal registration, Ages and Stages developmental screenings, and community events for children.

Partnerships: An important part of our program is our community partnerships. We work with the cities, local business owners, community agencies, community centers, preschools, faith-based organizations, and school districts in order to extend our services and provide more of what families are looking for (click here for more on our community partnerships).
