October Overview

CHAC/FIRST 5 Presents: Your October Overview
Greetings Families, Partners, and LTI Community

October is the unofficial most fun month of the year for the staff because of our annual Halloween Party!  This is our fifth year and we think it keeps getting better and better. Fall is a time of gathering the crops and preparing for the cold, dark months ahead. That means it’s busy! We hope you find some time for fun and quiet in between the chores.

Here’s this month’s news

Announcing the Fifth Annual Halloween Party!

This year, we’ve moved the venue to Washington Park in Sunnyvale to give us some more room. Join us for a costume parade, (not so) spooky story time and silly songs, arts and craft stations, games and photo booth.

The best part? Admission is FREE! All arts & crafts, games and photo booth are FREE!
Face painting and Jameszini’s Balloon Animals are $2 each.

Details: Washington Park, 840 W Washington Ave

Saturday, October 25

10:30am-12:30pm
(please arrive on time so you don’t miss the parade!)

Let’s Make This Guy Dress Up as Clifford!

The dare has been issued! Mercy Street FRC has dared Marcus D., host of the “Star Mornings with Marcus D. and Sandy” show on Star 101.3 in San Francisco to make an appearance at our Fifth Annual Halloween Party, dressed as Clifford the Dog! He must also read a story to the children during story time.

Marcus D. has accepted the challenge – on the condition of raising $3,000 to support Mercy Street FRC (and includes our sites at Sunnyvale [Vargas], Canon Music [Cupertino],  and Escuela [North. Mt. View]).

Let’s make him dress up and support our centers! Please share this link with all of your contacts and on Facebook, Twitter, or any of your other networking sites.

FREE Vision and Dental Screenings coming in October

FocusFirst is back! We are pleased to announce FREE vision and dental screenings coming to 3 of our centers in October. With their specialized equipment, FocusFirst can screen infants. Parents at our last events said the screening was fast and easy and most got their results right away.

Did you know that dentists recommend that children should have their first dental screening by the time their first tooth comes in? It’s a great time to check on the health of the gums and new teeth, and to give children a gentle introduction to an oral exam. It helps to see a pediatric dentist – they know how to work best with little ones.

You can come to any one of the screenings. No registration is required – screenings are on a first come, first served basis.

Take the Pledge to Bring Your Bottle, and Get a Free One From FIRST 5.

From now through November 21, staff and teachers will be making Potter the Otter presentations to teach kids the value of drinking water and the reasons to stay away from sugary drinks. During these presentations, if you take the Bring Your Bottle Pledge, you will get a FIRST 5 bottle for free. It’s part of FIRST 5’s campaign to prevent obesity, encourage drinking good, clean water and reducing waste! Did you know FIRST 5 has also launched “Hydration Stations” around the county? At these stations, placed in local schools, kids can fill up their new bottles.

Get more information about “Hydration Stations”: http://www.first5kids.org/page/local-agencies-install-38-new-hydration-stations-local-schools/

Thank you to Dan and Tesin Dosch for helping CHAC/Mercy Street FRC get sponsored for a Yahoo Employee Foundation Choice Grant (need correct name). Not only did they sponsor us, they also did a lot of rallying of Yahoo employees to help us earn votes for the grant. Thanks to their efforts, our Science Kids program received a grant that will help its sustainability. We are grateful for families who want to give their time, energy and resources to maintain our program.
